In-Home Respite Care Services

Recharging the Family Caregiver

About Respite Care for Caregivers

Caring for a loved one is one of the most meaningful things a person can do and one of the most exhausting. Our professional in-home respite care services give family caregivers across Oshawa, Durham Region, Simcoe County, and the GTA the space to rest, recover, and recharge, while their loved one remains in safe, capable hands.

Whether you need a few hours to run errands, a full day to yourself, or emergency respite care coverage when the unexpected happens, we are available when you need us. Our caregivers follow your loved one’s existing care routines, so there is no disruption, just peace of mind.

Flexible Scheduling

We offer respite care by the hour, half-day, full day, or for multiple consecutive days.

Scheduling is built entirely around the family caregiver’s needs, whether that is a regular weekly block or ad hoc support as needed.

Seamless Continuity

Our caregivers are briefed on your loved one’s established routines, preferences, and care plan before each visit.

Familiar routines are maintained throughout, so your loved one experiences minimal disruption.

Peace of Mind

When Vitality is on duty, family members can fully step away physically and mentally, knowing standards of care will remain consistent in your absence.

Our caregivers are trained and supervised under an RPN-led care structure, so you can rest.

Emergency Respite Coverage

If a sudden obligation, illness, or family emergency pulls you away unexpectedly, our emergency respite care is available with as little notice as needed.

We maintain a network of available caregivers specifically for unplanned coverage needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is respite care covered by OHIP in Ontario?

OHIP does not directly fund private respite care. However, some publicly-funded respite care may be available through Ontario Health at Home, depending on eligibility. Vitality is a private provider, which means faster access, flexible scheduling, and no waitlists. We are happy to help you understand your options during a free consultation.

What is the difference between respite care and regular home care?

Regular home care is ongoing support scheduled around a client’s long-term needs. Respite care is temporary, flexible relief provided specifically to give family caregivers a break. At Vitality, both are delivered by the same trained caregivers under the same RPN-supervised standard; the difference is simply the scheduling model.

How quickly can respite care begin?

Once we complete a care assessment, respite care can often begin within days. We understand that the need for a break can arise urgently, and we are structured to then respond as quickly as needed.
